code red

State issues Code Red ozone alert

Apparently we're in a Code Red ozone alert at the moment. Which I find rather confusing. It's something to do with driving, pollution, older people and folks with asthma...something like that.
There are too many color codes out there. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to drive or not drive, use electricity, breath, avoid mass transit and major cities, drink mountain dew, or watch out for a blue ligth special at kmart, or maybe a red-light one at target. Or maybe code red has something to do with redlight districts. At least I know it's not a code blue and that I need to perform CPR. Unless perhaps the people calling the codes are color blind.

The color code system is used too many places....work, on tv shows, flags at the beach (bad waves, too much 'aquatic life' aka sharks and jellyfish), threat levels.

I must admit though, it's not quite as confusing as storm watches and warnings. Apparently a warning is the most severe. But to me, it should be the other way around. You warn someone if something could happen potentially. You tell them to watch when there's something you might see. A thunderstorm watch makes me think I should be looking out the window for a storm. And then there are advisories, but I won't even contemplate that until I can remember the difference between watches and warnings. And winter storms are a whole 'nother story.

Well, whatever the weather and news say I'm supposed to do, I am not out driving in this nasty weather. I am inside enjoying my air conditioning and all those other electricity-using devices.
