The NEW Facebook-the real reason....
....more advertising. pure and simple.
i saved some of my old profile views on my computer. i went back and looked, and there was room for the one advertisement on the left side. and all profile information was on one page.
now your info is broken up into different pages. and each page has two adds. my profile has wall, info, photos, boxes, and music ilike (something that during the newfacebook switch got removed from my profile and i had to add it back....i found out because my ilike artist weekly update arrived in my email inbox and showed my music had been removed from profiles this week....that is why).
so that's 5 pages a person must click on to see my entire profile. at 2 ads a page, that's a total of 10 ads, verses 1 on my old profile (although sometimes i thought there were two, and occasionally they sneak ads into your updates on your home facebook page...actually more than occasionally).
so that is the reason for the new facebook my friends. pure and simple.

The new layout is the only way forward, accommodating new features, enhanced security, and an enlarged number of users.
They would never redesign an entire social network just to add more advertising. They could've simply done that with the same design.
Well, if one was to redesign a layout for a sight for any reason, certainly they would consider how to add more advertising in their new format.
The new layout is extremely frustrating, difficult to use, and I haven't noticed any new features that I find useful.
